Creative Machine Quilting

Yes you can! Machine quilt on your home machine. Award winning quilter will teach you how to create your own designs. (*optional additional purchase of free motion quilting equipment provided by instructor will be available in the class.)

  • Bring: One yard plain or mottled fabric; starch and iron dry, leaving the factory fold; 21x36 batting will fit exactly; anchor together with 8 or 10 safety pins; 50 weight cotton thread in bobbin; poly, rayon, or cotton thread for top. Bring some "fun" colors; free motion foot for your machine. If you purchase one just before class, be certain that it fits your machine; please be sure you come to class with a foot pedal, cord, and instruction manual; water soluable marker (usually blue); the supreme slider (available in class at discount); scissors of course! Pat will bring the chocolate!

Capture shadows through sun printing on both fabric and paper! This workshop offers an introduction to the cyanotype printing process. Experiment with a combination of natural, foraged materials and found objects to create a series of unique prints. Please bring a selection of your own materials to print with for further experimentation beyond what I will provide for the group to work with. Please choose any items you wish to print with; any 2D or 3D object will create an image when printed through this process! Some great materials to utilize include plants, other natural specimens, glass or other translucent objects, and other ordinary things we may overlook, which yield intriguing shapes, textures, and compositions!

Make furniture fit for a gnome! (Or a fairy/elf). Using pieces found in Nature, hot glue and your creativity, we will create tiny furniture. Please note that hot glue is not suitable for small children without parental supervision. Ahead of class, please look for tiny pieces of found nature materials to use for furniture: tiny rocks, pieces of bark, twigs, dried flowers or pods, dried leaves, shells, etc. All items should be legally and respectfully gathered; students should use caution that they do not harvest poisonous or endangered plants/species.

We will start by talking about strategies to approach the blank paper, determining composition, laying in the paint and choosing selective focus points. Japanese Tie-dyeing, or Shibori, is an ancient Japanese way to dye textiles, creating fabulous patterns on cloth, quilts, pillow covers, sheets – let your imagination go crazy! Utilize folding, binding, twisting, bunching, and stitching cloth, and then dyeing it.
