The Acadia Barn Cats - Matinee Performance

The Acadia Barn Cats

A maddeningly eclectic String-Swing-Jazz quartet, the Acadia Barn Cats will hold forth at The Schoodic Arts Festival. They may look like a bluegrass band but when they sail smoothly into classic standards like “Begin the Beguine” “Fascinating Rhythm” and ”Cry Me a River”, you may say “What in tarnation?.” Born in a barn in Brooksville, the Cats are classical violinist Chris Nemeth, vocalist and dobroist (what’s that?) Bob Hipkens, guitar maestro Phil Kell, Bassist Tom Karnofsky with guest violinist and mandolinist, Jim Coffman and guest vocalist and guitarist Sarah Hipkens. They play and sing a book-full of swing jazz and cabaret standards but marble their sets with originals as well as folk, western swing and Latin classics.

Concert Series: Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light

Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light

Fresh off a first-place win at the 2023 Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival band competition, Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light have been captivating audiences throughout the northeast. With songs as sweet and biting as the nectar and venom in her voice, Sumner's lyric-forward writing and penchant for snaking chord progressions demand something far beyond folk conventions, highlighting the acrobatic range of her brilliant bandmates Kat Wallace (fiddle) and Mike Siegel (upright bass).

Doors open at 6:30pm.
